Neck lift in Colombia

Although other cosmetic surgical procedures may get more attention, perhaps neck lift in Colombia should be the one you consider first. After all, your neck is often the first place to show your real age. The primary concern of many patients is the appearance of aging in their necks. This is especially true in males. Loose skin, sagging muscles and fat deposits in the neck may be present even when the remainder of the face and jawline shows less signs of aging.

You may desire a neck lift in Colombia if you have extra skin and localized deposits of fat in the anterior part of the neck – under the chin. A neck lift may also be indicated if you have sagging, with skin folds.

One of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures in colombia, neck lift is also popular around the world with hundreds of thousands of neck surgeries nose performed each year. Both men and women frequently seek changes in the appearance of their neck.

Many women and men increase their self-confidence and satisfaction in their facial appearance, by visiting Premium Care Plastic Surgery in Colombia for neck lift. Patients often travel to Cartagena from all over the United States, Europe, and Latin America, as well as nearby cities like Barranquilla for neck lift from our talented surgeons.

The first signs of an aging neck usually become evident in our forties, and may appear as sagging or loosening of the skin below the chin or jaw. Some will notice cords or bands (the “weakening” of the platysma muscle) and possibly the development of a “turkey neck” or “turkey wattle.” With time, neck fullness and sagging tissues can progress to the point where the youthful definition of the jawline is blurred or lost altogether. And it’s not just advancing age that can affect the look of your neck. Even at a young age, excessive hereditary fat deposits located underneath the chin may enlarge and lead to the dreaded double or even triple chin.

Whether your neck is affected by age, your genes, the pull of gravity or the harsh effects of the sun and wind, neck lift surgery (platysmaplasty) or other neck contouring and rejuvenation procedures may be options. In a nutshell, a neck lift removes excess sagging skin under your jawline and on your neck. For those with bands or cords, the neck lift may involve adjusting and tightening the platysma muscle, if it has begun to separate and sag. If needed, the neck lift can include the removal or contouring of excess fatty tissue, some of which may be located below your platysma muscle.

If you only have excess fat under your chin or along your jawline, chin liposuction alone may be enough to enhance the appearance of your neck. However, be aware that as we move into our forties and fifties most necks will require more than just liposuction alone and will typically require a neck lift.

There are several ways to correct the neck. This procedure may be done independently or in conjunction with a facelift. Our plastic surgeons at Premium Care examine each individual and determine the best technique to give the correction the patient desires, according to his or her anatomy.

In some cases this can be done with liposuction alone. For some patients, the neck can be corrected with an incision that is limited to the skin crease under the chin. Other patients may require an incision hidden behind the ear, in order to correct significant skin laxity on the neck.

Changes around the eyes are some of the earliest evidence that occur in the face showing signs of the aging process. Consultation & Preparation

YOUR NECK LIFT CONSULTATION AT PREMIUM CARE PLASTIC SURGERY

If you are bothered by signs of aging in your neck, neck lift surgery may be right for you.  A neck lift is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:

  • Fat that has fallen or is displaced
  • Loss of muscle tone in the lower face may create jowls
  • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a double chin
IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?

A neck lift can only be performed surgically; non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time at which a facelift becomes appropriate and complement the results of surgery. Neck lift surgery is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires to try to fit any sort of ideal image.

A NECK LIFT IS A GOOD OPTION FOR YOU IF:
  • You are physically healthy and maintain a stable weight
  • You do not smoke
  • You have realistic expectations
  • You are bothered by the feeling that you have jowls, a double chin, a turkey wattle or any other cosmetic concerns about the appearance of your neck.
WHAT NECK LIFT WON’T DO:

As a restorative surgery, a neck lift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process.

The best way for patients to understand their options is in a thorough consultation at Premium Care Plastic Surgery.  In our approach to facelift and Neck lift communicating with our patient is key.  We will carefully review your medical history and evaluation questionnaire before the initial consultation.  Our plastic surgeons will explain how the different procedures may apply to you specifically, and what we recommend for your particular case.  We’ll also demonstrate the result we’d expect with each of the procedure options.

BE PREPARED TO DISCUSS:
  • Why you want the surgery, your expectations and desired outcome
  • Your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors
  • Medical conditions, drug allergies and medical treatments
  • Previous surgeries
  • Use of current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, and tobacco

There will also be a physical component to this visit. Your surgeon will assess the amount of excess fat or loose skin in your neck area as well as the quality of your skin and muscle tone in this area.

Your surgeon will explain the techniques for a neck lift and incision placements that would be most appropriate for you. He or she must discuss all the risks associated with neck lift with you, as well.

YOUR PLASTIC SURGEON AT PREMIUM CARE WILL ALSO:
  • Take photographs for your medical record
  • Discuss your options and recommend a course of treatment
  • Discuss likely outcomes of neck lift and any risks or potential complications

For some patients, we may recommend that neck lift be combined with a additional facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift, forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or skin treatments for as part of a comprehensive plan for facial rejuvenation.

Nicotine patches or gum are also associated with increased complications and should not be used in preparation for surgery.

We recommend warm, loose fitting clothing, such as pajamas or sweat pants with thick socks or slippers to prevent the chills commonly experienced after surgery. Please inform your surgeon if you have a cold, sore throat, active allergies or an open cut or sore on the day of your surgery.

Procedure & Recovery

YOUR NECK LIFT
WHAT HAPPENS DURING NECK LIFT SURGERY?
STEP 1 – ANESTHESIA

Medications are administered for your comfort during a neck lift procedure. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best choice for you.

Your surgeon may mark up the areas on your neck and/or face before beginning the neck lift.

STEP 2 – THE INCISION

If you are having a “skin-only” neck lift, your surgeon makes two incisions under or behind the ear and then loosens the skin and redrapes it before removing any excess skin.

If you are having a platysmaplasty with a skin lift, you may have a small incision under the chin along with the ones behind or under your ear.  With a platysmaplasty, a section of the platysma muscle may be removed.  Your surgeon will then rearrange and tighten the remaining muscle to improve the look of the neck and throat area. He or she will also loosen and redrape your neck skin as in a skin-only neck lift.

STEP 3 – CLOSING THE INCISIONS

Once healed, the incision lines from a neck lift are well concealed within the hairline and in the natural contours of the face and ear.

STEP 4 – SEE THE RESULTS

The visible improvements of a neck lift appear as swelling and bruising subside. Your final result should not only restore a more youthful and rested appearance, but also help you feel more confident about yourself.

YOUR RECOVERY
NECK LIFT RECOVERY

When your procedure is completed, a pressure dressing wrapped around the top of your head to underneath your chin will gently be placed around your chin to minimize post facelift swelling and bruising. A thin tube may be present to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin.  The patient goes home with chin and neck wrapped in dressings or in an elastic neck sling. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.

Bruising, swelling and recovery time varies from patient to patient. A number of factors including the patient’s skin, general health, medications, as well as the procedure necessary to deliver the desired results, will influence the recovery time. Our doctors and staff at Premium Care Plastic Surgery will advise you of the appropriate do’s and don’ts before surgery.

In general, most patients are over most of their bruising and much of their swelling 10 to 14 days after surgery. Many patients return to social activities, and/or work, 2 weeks after surgery and everyone returns to aerobic exercise 21 days post-op.  You and your surgeon will know that there is still some swelling to subside but your friends and colleagues will see you as significantly refreshed.

YOU WILL BE GIVEN SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS THAT MAY INCLUDE:
  • How to care for your incisions following surgery
  • Medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection
  • When to follow-up with your plastic surgeon.
BE CAREFUL

Following your physician’s instructions is key to the success of your surgery. It is important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during the time of healing. Your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to care for yourself.

NECK LIFT RESULTS WILL BE LONG LASTING

It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate and up to 6 months for incision lines to mature.  Life-long sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. In addition, a healthy lifestyle will also help extend the results of your rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.
